Basement Bathroom Floor Makeover

All of the home makeover projects we've been doing around the house have gone so well!  It's been a lot of hard work, but it's been so worth it.  Another project we finished this winter was the bathroom floor in the basement, just off of the family room.  I love the colors & how well it turned out!

Here is a before:
Isn't that just pretty?!

I know, it's not horrible, but definitely not our style :)

We actually started our flooring projects with this room & love how well it turned out!  Again, we used the Dura-ceramic tiles.  I think they're awesome because the tile isn't as hard (less chance of breaking things when they get dropped on it, or breaking the floor when things get dropped :D ), and the floor isn't as cold to the feet as real tile.  Being that I'm usually ALWAYS cold, this is a huge plus to me!  Thank you Ed, for being willing to cater to my needs :D

Anyway, here are the pictures!

We (well, mostly my amazing husband) laid out the tiles to make sure we had enough & cut them all.

Close up

Adhesive is put down, then tiles go on top of that.  Then grout goes on last.

Looks awesome!
Another close up
This was the new sink we found last year on clearance at Menard's.  The hubbs & his brother installed it one weekend when I was gone!  It makes the room look sooo much nicer :)

Yes, that is a sauna & it does work!  So fun to have - especially after cross country skiing in the winter :D
This project was a lot of work!  Especially for my muscle-man husband.  He was the one that ripped out all of the old linoleum from the floor, which was not a fun task!  He also had to tweak the trim to make it work with the new floor.  This bathroom was all brown before (see the before pics) we put the new floor in, but it was going to be way too dark.  So, we also painted the back wall & the shower wall the lighter beige color, which again made an incredible difference in the room!

Yay for home improvement projects!!  :D

Yellow Cubby Table Makeover

I've got another furniture makeover project to show you!

If you've been following me for a while, you may remember that my grandma passed away a little over a year ago.  Amongst some other really fun things, I was able to get some fun wooden tables from her house.  She always had one of them by her bed & my grandpa had one in his room as well.

Here is what they looked like:
I did a little sanding to the top to try to smooth it out some...
Here's a close up of the detail on the door.  Yes, they have doors, so can function as storage as well as a table!!

Notice the past tense?!  You guessed it - I re-purposed them & love how they turned out!  I had gotten some yellow spray paint a while back, not sure what I was going to do with it.  Then as I started adding more yellow into our living room, I knew these were going to go perfect!

Here are some more pictures :D

I will probably add a coat or 2 of polyurathane once we finally have a sunny day, but until then we will just make sure to use coasters so as to not ruin the paint!

I really like how they turned out!  I'm not sure if I'll put the other one in place of the other table in this picture so that they chair is balanced, or leave it on the other side of the room next to the big couch.  We will just have to see!

It feels a bit crowded here, so I will need to do some sort of rearranging... but it works for now!

Pink Bathroom: Floor Redone

Remember my pink bathroom?!  Yeah, the one with the awesome pinkish accent wall?!  And all of the fabulous sparkle & bling in the shower curtain & fun accents?  Maybe this will help you remember :)

Ok, so now that we got you up to speed, remember that wonderful floor?  Need a pic again?

Well guess what?!  We re-did the floor!!!!!!!  Yay!!!  This all happened a while ago, but I don't think I've posted official pictures yet :)

So here you go!

Before

After taking the toilet out, we screwed down some new subfloor.

Subfloor all tacked down.

Ed spent a lot of time laying out the tiles & cutting them & numbering them so we'd know which one went where!

Adhesive went down next.

And then we could finally start putting down the tiles!

Last step was to grout in between all of the tiles.  I got to rinse out sponges & hand them to the hubbs :)

It looks SO SO SO much better! So thankful for a hubbs that can figure stuff like this out!

Next step will be the counter - but it's good enough for now!  At some point we need to replace the tiles in the shower/tub too.  But again, it's all good for now :)

Curtain Reveal

In one of my posts last week, I asked for your votes on which material I should use for the curtains in my living room.  I so appreciate everyone who weighed in!  I did take each vote to heart, which made it difficult to decide because so many people liked them both :D  So, I went with my gut & finally made a decision!!

Here is the before picture:

And here is the winner!!

I know they're not perfect, but they're good enough for this amatuer seamstress!

And some pictures of the living room:

There's the green chair I found last year around this time, which I mentioned in an earlier post!
I love how the living room is slowly coming together!  Some day I want to get another lamp that matches the one you can see & replace the one you can see in the mirror :)

A banner I made for Easter - "He Is Risen"

I'm not done with this yet, but thought it'd be fun to use one of the napkins on this table :)

I've done more updating to the living room!  Check it out here:

Laundry Room floor makeover!

I love how the flooring turned out in our laundry room!  It used to be this nasty yellow linoleum and we finally got it all covered up!  Yay!!
Don't mind the mess!  :)

After moving the washer, dryer, & tub out, the hubbs discovered that we needed to put some new piping in - he figured the old stuff had been there since the 80's when the house was built!  Then he ripped the top of the old stuff out & then laid down some new sub-floor & tacked it down with lots & lots & lots of screws.

Then we he put down some special adhesive and then we were able to lay the duraceramic tiles on top of it!  Then we put the grout in between each tile to make it look nice & fancy :D  That was the part that I got to help with!

Success!!

Painting more flowers!

I love how my flower canvas collage in my bathroom turned out, so I thought I'd take a shot at making some more of them!  I've got one more done so far, with one other started.  I took 4 blank canvases, laid 2 horizontal & 2 vertical & then put my pattern down on it.  Then I traced around the pattern.  I chose a fun minty green paint (Martha Stewart) for the flower.

Then I had picked out a fun brown color that I decided to use as the accent color.  Both took a couple coats of paint, but I like how they turned out!  If I had those colors in my house, I'd want to keep them :)

I wasn't sure what to do with the middle, but I decided to use a black fabric paint marker & traced along the inside of the green.  I liked how it made it pop, so ended up going around the entire flower!

Nope, it's not going on this pink wall!  :D  Just wanted to give an example of how I'd hang it up :D

If you would like me to make one for you with the colors of your choice, let me know!!

Making curtains

Hello friends!  I could really use some advice on my curtains for our living room!  I bought these awesome brown curtains last year at a garage sale (for $8!! - wahoooo!!!) and am finally getting around to hanging them up :)  Why the delay you may ask?  I'm not really sure what the answer is in all honesty.  I didn't really know where I wanted to hang them, or how I wanted to put them up.  But, after finding some fun fabric at JoAnn's to cover my pillows,

& scoring a clearanced out body pillow cover that is perfect,

I decided I need to add something more to the living room.  Don't be fooled though, I decided this a LONG time ago :)  Have I ever mentioned that I'm the queen of procrastination?  It's true.  I'll admit it.  Here's what the living room looked like without the curtains, or the new pillows:

I wanted the curtains to hang from floor to ceiling, but they're just not quite long enough.  I've heard many, many times that this helps to make your room look bigger.  Well, this has added to my undecidedness (is that even a word?!) as I wasn't sure what I wanted to do  I had some left over fabric from the pillows that I thought about using.  But I also found some.... wait for it..... cloth napkins at Target that I had thought about trying to incorporate as well.  I think the pattern is super cute & well, they match the body pillow pretty well!

Here's where I need your help!  The fabric on each side is just loosely pinned onto the curtains.  Which one do you think looks better?  The one that matches the pillows?  Or the one with the fun fabric?

Voting starts...... now  :D

You can see they don't quite hit the floor.... but adding fabric will give them the length they need!

There's the hubbs, checking on the grass seed he put down now that the snow here is FINALLY gone!  Praise Jesus!
See which one I chose here:
