Fun Little DIY Chair

Good morning!  I got another DIY project done & am so excited about it!  I think it turned out pretty cute.  Thanks to my mom for helping me to pick out fabric :D

The chair looked like this to start out:
Thank you garage sales for helping me find fun stuff at great prices!

And I turned it into this!

I love doing DIY projects & re-purposing things to give them a new look :D

How cute does the chair look next to the headboard on the floor next to it?!

DIY Headboard

Here's another DIY project I've been working on for Tin Can Alley!  I love this fabric & can't wait to see who ends up with this headboard!

There are some "D" rings on the back so that it can hang on the wall above your bed!

And just wait til you see what I have to go with it!  I think it'll be cute :)

It's hard to believe Tin Can Alley is only 5 1/2 weeks away!!!!  Oh boy do I have some work to get done.  Whew!  But I'm so excited & cannot wait to see how all of our hard work will pay off  :)

In case you're wondering what Tin Can Alley is, I blogged about it here.  You can also check out our blog!  Just know it's still a work in progress as we get ourselves going :D

Around the House - Basement

I've got another room to show you today!  Or a little sneak peek at it anyway.  Our family room, or den as some people call it, is downstairs in the basement.  It's our space where the outdoors meets antique :)  My husband is a huge hunter & has his trophy buck mounted & we have it hanging up in our family room.  So, I needed to find a way to incorporate the decor with it.  I'll show you more of that in a future post - stay tuned!

In the meantime, here is a little DIY project I did!
I just love this saying!  And, love how it ties in with some of the decor in the room :D

I did not make the words, but I did make a mistake when putting the decal on the wall!  I thought that I had gotten everything all straight, but when I peeled off the backing, "faith" was crooked :(  I tried making the rest of it a little bit crooked then as well, but it didn't turn out as I had thought.  So, in an attempt to hide the crookedness, I made the "flowers" to put around it!  The few people I've mentioned it to have not noticed it's crookedness, so maybe I'm just being too picky?  Or, they're just being nice :)

Love how the pops of red & other colors come through in this one!

These flowers were made with newspaper!

Isn't this cross awesome?!

Thank you, Erin!
My cousin made it for us - a Christmas gift as we are her son's Godparents!  I had some other crosses at home & ended up hanging them all up on the wall around the old photo, again incorporating the old feel.  Plus, the crosses hold deep meaning to us & I want people to feel Christ's love when they are in our home!  So, the gift was perfect & provided inspiration for this wall!
My husband remembers this picture being hung up in his grandma's (or great grandma's) home!  I love that it was given to him & that we're able to have it hanging in our home!  You may remember seeing it in a previous post, where I was asking for your opinions on where it should go!  I found a great home for it though :)

Introducing Tin Can Alley!

I cannot tell you how excited I am for August 15th to get here!!!

My mom & I have talked about a fun new adventure for quite some time now & it's finally becoming a reality!  Together with her 2 sisters & some other vendors, we are going to try our hands at an occasional sale!  We will feature a lot of vintage, re-purposed, handmade items & I couldn't be more excited!  There will be a lot of creativity crammed into this one space that you should definitely come & check out!  It will be in Cromwell, MN behind Hair It Is, back in the alley :)  Thus, Tin Can Alley.  Have I mentioned yet how excited I am?!

You can check out our blog at Tin Can Alley or our facebook page here!

As we work on our projects, we will be posting them on the blog & the fb page, so check back often to see what's going on!  Keep Aug 15, 16 & 17th open on your calendars to come see what we've got!

Here's a little peak into what you might find....

Kitchen Upgrade!

A while back, I did a blog post about our kitchen & the major makeover it got.  You can find that post here!  I am still loving how our kitchen came together!  It was a lot of work, but yet again, so worth it!  I love the colors on the wall (a gray Behr paint from Home Depot) and the cabinets have held up well so far!  Those were also painted with Behr paint from Home Depot.

I also showed you some chairs that I had painted, which I still love as well!  They're such a fun pop of color & really bring a nice accent to the kitchen.

This winter we finally found a good deal (well, again I should say Ed did!) on a microwave to go above the range.  We had been looking for quite some time, as we really wanted to free up the counter space.
Plus, the hood above the stove just was not pretty at all!!  I probably could have found some spray paint or something to cover it, but it just was time for it to go :)
Before

Here are some pictures of the process of getting that bad boy hung up!!

No, my cupboards were not that dirty that we had to stop what we were doing to "clean" them out :)  I didn't take any pictures in the process, but we ended up having to drill holes through the cupboards to get the cord to the new microwave through.  We tried many other solutions, but this was the best option.  So, needless to say, we had wood chips & sawdust everywhere :D  I guess that just comes with the territory!

It took a while, but eventually we made it through, without hitting the metal bracket on the inside :)

Oops, scratched up the wall a bit too!  I'd rather have that then hire someone else to come & do all of our projects!  Thank you Lord for a husband who is so good at this kind of stuff!
We also had to cut into one of the shelves to make room for the cord.....
So since it was out of the cupboard, I added some contact paper to help make it feel a bit cleaner!
Looks good, huh?!
Thank you, mom for the fun towel!!
Some day this will get a facelift as well .....

And this guy too....
