Wow, it's taken me forever to post some pictures from our trip to Canada!!  It seems as though it's been a whirlwind since we got back & life has had many ups & downs since then.  But, I finally have a Saturday at home, which I love!  And, the weather outside is frightfu.....  no, I mean it's GORGEOUS!  I just love beautiful fall days in Minnesota!  The leaves are changing color, there's a crispness to the air at night, & there's a wonderful smell in the air!  I will post more pictures of fall later.  Let's focus on Canada for now :)

Despite the hail storm that we had to drive through on our way to Banff & the damage it did to Beauty (my car) we had a great trip!  We spent 4 nights in Canada & then drove down to Montana, which was also great.  I'll talk more about that part of the trip later on as well - I just want to show the beauty of the Banff area for now!

It was absolutely gorgeous!!!  If you've never been, trust me, you NEED to take the time to go.  I've heard it's beautiful in the winter as well, but it was perfect in the summer (well, besides sleeping in a tent when it was in the 40's at night, but that's beside the point, lol!).  I highly recommend going!

Gorgeous, huh?!

I think this is called the Fairmont....... it's a huge, famous hotel in Banff.

This is Lake Louise.  The color of the water was stunning, as was the view!

Ready to start our first hike of the trip, up to the Tea Hut!

This was a little less than half way up the mountain....

We made it to the top!  As we sat to eat lunch, we were welcomed by some guests........

He wanted to eat our food.

Happy Anniversary!

See that hotel at the bottom?  That's where we started our trek!

Ed brought his spotting scope, which was pretty fun to look through!

I think this was Morraine Lake.  Again, the color of the water was gorgeous!!!

This is a glacier.

This is me trying to hold up the glacier.

Yes, he did walk across there & explored over on the other side of the river :D

Breathtakingly beautiful!!

Good bye Banff.  Hopefully we'll see you again some day!

So, there you have it!  Next up, pics of Montana!!

I cannot wait to try this recipe tonight!!  I'm having a Jewel Kade party at my house & I can't wait to see how good this smells!  It's my Pinterest pick of the week - have I mentioned yet how much I love Pinterest?!  Thank you whoever created it :D

The recipe is to help make your house smell amazing!  It's just oranges & cinnamon, boiled in water.  I hope it smells as good as I am imagining it to smell :)

Have a fabulous day!

Basement Arrangements

We recently rearranged a little bit in our basement/den.  I'm trying to decide which looks better on our mantle, for right now :)  I may switch it all up & do something more creative for fall, but for now it will stay as is!  I'm just starting up as a Stylist with Jewel Kade, which is an incredible line of jewelry & I'm in love with.  Needless to say, my time will be a bit consumed because of that, so I may not get around to decorating more for fall!!  Oh, the sacrifice, right?!  ;)  No, not really!

Anyway, which do you think looks better?
I know it's kind of dark down there & hard to see, but you kind of get the gist of it....... This picture was in my husbands grandma's house - so it's an oldie but a goodie!

If you've never heard of or been to Ronda, Spain, you MUST go!  I still think it's been one of my most favorite places to travel - it was simply gorgeous!  This picture doesn't do it justice.  Just trust me when I say it's gorgeous :D  And that you should go.  I was in Spain for a conference & got to see & go inside the Rock of Gibraltar & Ronda in one day.  Oh so fun!

So, any votes?!  I'd love to hear what you think :)  Some day I will show more pics of the basement & what it looks like!!

Another Gift

My sweet friend, Catherine is getting married next month!  I got to go to a bridal shower for her this past weekend - it was so fun to celebrate her & this next stage of her life!  Up until the day before her shower, I still didn't know what I wanted to get for her.  I kind of wanted to make something, but wasn't sure what.  So, the day before, I ended up going to Target to look over her registry & found these super duper cute & fun napkins that her & her finace had registered for......
I love the pattern so much, I may go get some myself & make more things with them :D

It took me a while to figure what to do - one idea was to try to use the same pattern & make some sort of wall decor out of the pattern.  But I'm not good at re-creating things.  I tried re-drawing the pattern several times, but couldn't get it to look quite right.  Then, the lightbulb when off!!!  I took one of the napkins out of the package & photo-copied it & then used that to create something....
It didn't copy perfectly, but it still looked ok, so I went with it :)  I kind of like when things aren't perfect sometimes!

And this was the finished product!!  I put the paper on a canvas, which I wished afterward that I would have done something more sturdy.  I'm really hoping it will stick & not come off of the canvas.  The modge podge was giving me some issues that day!!  Her new last name will start with an "M" so I wanted to add that detail to the piece.  Being as it didn't show up super well, I added the black embelishments as well, which I think added a nice touch!  I like how the shapes in the 2 corners added some extra bling, as they have a black sparkly finish to them :D

Bike crashes

I was looking through some of my pictures on the computer, trying to find something to inspire a blog post for today when I found these beauties!

My sweet, sweet husband gave them to me last summer, not because I did something to make me deserve them, but quite the opposite!  It was about to storm & I think I had even heard that we were maybe going to get hail, so I wanted to pull the car in the garage.  But, there was this bike in the way.  So, I tried to figure out if there was a way that I could manuever the bike out of the way, into the small open space next to all of the other stuff in the garage (it was while we were remodelling or replacing the carpet, so half of the garage was FULL of stuff!).  I had to make sure I could hold it up & move it safely.  Which I managed to do.  I got the kickstand back in place & set the bike back in it's place to rest on it.  That only lasted about 45 seconds.  The pretty, blue, shiny bike was too heavy for the way it was resting on the kickstand & just after I had moved away from it, content that I was able to move it, it came crashing down on the garage floor.  My heart dropped.

You see, it wasn't just a normal bike.  It was a motorcycle!!!!  And it was heavy.  Too heavy for me to pick up.  I felt awful.  I text my husband to let him know, scared of what he was going to say.  I was in tears.  I seriously felt terrible!  He was so gracious with me & asked if I was ok!  What?!  I may have just ruined his motorcycle & he asks if I'm ok?!  Wow!  So instead of being mad at me, he bought me these beautiful flowers!  I couldn't believe it.  He knew how terrible I felt, so wanted to make me feel better.  The "bike" did have a few scratches in it & a few parts had to be replaced, but it wasn't as bad as I was imagining.  The worst part tho - it never did hail.  I don't think I've even touched the bike since that little incident :D

The opened up beautifully!!

9.11.01 - Where was God that day?

It's hard to believe, but it's been 11 years since the Twin Towers in NYC fell.  What a tragic day that was.  I remember I was a junior in college & was sitting in our living room eating breakfast, getting ready to go to class when I saw the news.  I watched the newscasters talk about the first plane crashing into the first tower, confused by how a pilot could have been so off, only to see the second plane hit.  It was horrific.  My roommates & I couldn't even speak.  School was cancelled that day & all we did was sit & watch.  There didn't really seem like there was anything else we could do.  I felt helpless.  And my heart broke for all of the people who were involved & lost loved ones.  I couldn't stop the tears over this great tragedy.

The only other thing I could do from my little apartment was pray.  Pray for protection over the people who were going in to rescue those caught in the fire, putting their own life on the line.  Pray for the families whose lives were forever changed.  Pray for people to turn to God instead of blaming Him.  Pray for the attacks to stop.  Pray for those who were involved in crashing the planes, that somehow God would enter into their lives & turn them away from the evil in their hearts.  Pray for our President & those in leadership of our country, that they would make the best decisions as to how to move forward.  I cannot imagine the amount of responsibility that was put on his/their shoulders, as America looked to them to move forward, but also to not ever let something like this happen again.

So many people ask how God could allow something like this to happen.  How does he allow such evil things to happen to good people.  But I don't think it was His plan at all.  He doesn't want to see his children, his creation suffer.  There is evil in the world, doing anything in it's power to turn people away from Christ.  I believe that this situation hurt the heart of God, just as much, if not more than it hurt mine & yours as well.  It's not how he created life to be.  Some day, all evil will be wiped away & there will be no more pain & suffering.  I cannot wait for that day!  Here's a reference to what I'm talking about, taken from "The Message", which has been quoted as "The Bible in Contemporary Language" on their website.  It takes often-times hard to understand texts & simplifies them into our current language, making it a bit easier to comprehend.  If I'm having a hard time understanding what the Bible is saying, I'll often times go to The Message version to try & get a handle on it.

Anyway, here's what I wanted to share:

2 Peter 3:9

The Message (MSG)
I just love that!  It speaks so much to the heart of God.  He wants everyone to change & to come to Him, because he loves us so much!
I heard so many stories in the days, weeks, & months after this tragic event, of people who missed their bus, or forgot something at home & turned around to go back & were late for work that day, which allowed them to not be in the towers.  I don't think that was a coincidence, I think that was the hand of God.  If you've got a story like that, I'd love to hear it!

Today we pause & we remember the people who sacrificed back on that September fall day, & are still sacrificing their lives for our freedom.  We are forever grateful to them.  Thank you for your sacrifice.  And to the families & to the people who lost a loved one over those long, gruelling days, know that we mourn with you still today.  We don't know how it felt, but we are sorry for your loss & continue to hold you up in our prayers as you continue to try to live each moment & each day without your loved-one.  May God give you the peace & the comfort that you need.
