Kitchen Remodel - Loving the Gray!

It has definitely been a work in progress, but we're getting closer & closer to having our kitchen remodel done!  Here's what it looked like before (please know that it was only a day or 2 after we got back from our honeymoon, thus the major mess! -

The gray on the wall was my way of testing to see if I'd like the color - making sure it wasn't blue or purple, like the 2 previous "grays" I had purchased :D

Is this floor just gorgeous?!  ;)
Doesn't this just look stressful?!  Wow, what a mess!

I took off all of the cupboard doors & painted them....

Several coats of paint.......

I really wanted to add this fun detail to the doors, using the same gray (Behr Premium Ultra, Creek Bend) we had used on the walls, but it was going to be too time consuming & I couldn't make the lines straight enough to make it not look like a 5 year old had done it :)  The cabinets are also Behr paint, color is Antique White.

My sweet friend Tricia came over one day & helped me with some taping & painting!
Also see the new appliances we got?  They look so much better than the old ones!  We still want to get a microwave to go above the range, but for now we'll keep using the old one & keep the funny looking hood above the oven :)  One step at a time, right?!

My husband installed the flooring & it looks fabulous!!

New hardware for the doors & drawers

"Working" hard?!  :)  After we got the new floor in & some new appliances, we realized how awful the old countertop looked, so back to Lowe's we went to order something new.  And installed it ourselves.  We saved so much money doing everything on our own, but it was a lot of work!

This particular wall gave us some troubles, as we had to make some new cuts into the counter to get it just right.  We scratched up the wall along the way as well - but nothing a little sanding & paint couldn't fix!

We also got a new sink that is wonderful!

The final reveal....................

You may recognize these chairs from a previous post, showing you how I had redone them!  BTW, I am still really liking them & the color has really grown on me.  I also love how the rug in the entry way just pops from this angle in the kitchen.

So there you have it!  I am in love with my kitchen & am so happy with how it turned out!  The color gray is perfect - thank you Behr Ultra paint, you are my new best friend when it comes to painting :)

If you are considering painting your cupboards & putting new hardware on, please let me know, as I've got a few helpful hints that I had to learn along the way :)  Maybe I'll post about them again some other day!

Thank you, Shannah! I used Behr Paint from Home Depot, the color is Antique White. I wanted to find something in between white white & cream & I think it looks perfect! They've also stayed pretty clean looking for the most part too, which is always an added bonus. I did end up having to do about 4 coats of paint though, because I didn't sand them first, so I added extra work for myself. But overall, I'm happy with the finished product :) Thanks for stopping by!

Kathy! Thank you so much for becoming my first follower! I really appreciate it :) Yes, it was a HUGE project, especially since we started it just after getting married & getting home from our honeymoon :) I wouldn't recommend anyone do that, but it worked & we love how it turned out! Just painting the cabinets alone made a huge difference. And well the floor...... that just speaks for itself, right?! Have a great day!

Fun! What colors are you going with in your kitchen? If you're re-doing the cabinets & getting new hardware, let me know as I've got a few very helpful hints that we had to figure out the hard way :D Thanks for stopping by & commenting!

OMG... a great transformation you guys had done.

I hardly recognize the after work §;-) and we have a similar kitchen though other way around. Hope you know what I mean. Your fridge & my stove is the difference.

Anyways, it really looks great.

Happy w/end.

This looks amazing! I love how it looks brand new and you didn't have to spend a lot of money! You have great taste!

Thank you! :D

Fun! I hope the process goes well for you! I ended up using about 4 coats of paint b/c I did not sand (which I would probably recommend doing!) & then another 4 coats of poly to seal them. Also, if you are getting new hardware, my husband and I highly recommend filling in the holes from the old hardware & then starting fresh with the new ones. And, if you take the cupboard doors off, try to keep them in order to make it easier to put back up :) I did not do that & it took quite some time to figure out which door went where, even though some were the same size :)

Thanks so much! It really was a lot of fun to do & has been fun to show people the transformation :) That's also fun that your kitchen is similar!

Thanks so much, Amy! I'm glad my husband trusts my taste in colors & let me run with it - I'm loving how it turned out :D

Looks great! I'm am going to give this a go perhaps in the next few weeks! I have nice wood, very old cabinets and alot of them. I am going to do them white, the walls gray and perhaps paint my hutch and table black. That's alot of painting!! I'm thinking it would be a good winter project. What color gray did you choose, I know it can be so hard to find the right color. Thanks in advance and please wish me luck!!

Not only am I loving the gray, but I'm loving the entire space! I saw your feature on "The Dedicated House" and had to pop over here. I've done my kitchen so I know how much hard work went into this project, and it totally paid off. Kudos to you!

Loribeth Clark said...

Turned out great!! I also saw your kitchen featured on "The Dedicated House" and stopped by to tell you how impressed I am. I'm currently redoing my kitchen, and your paint job has given me the encouragement to keep going!
Oh! if you want your range hood to blend in a little better while you're waiting to get a microwave, I have an idea for you. When I moved into my husband's house, he had a cream range hood that didn't go with anything. So I covered it with contact paper that looked like stainless steel. When my mom saw it, she thought I had a stainless steel range hood, so it can look very convincing.
