Kitchen Remodel - Loving the Gray!

It has definitely been a work in progress, but we're getting closer & closer to having our kitchen remodel done!  Here's what it looked like before (please know that it was only a day or 2 after we got back from our honeymoon, thus the major mess! -

The gray on the wall was my way of testing to see if I'd like the color - making sure it wasn't blue or purple, like the 2 previous "grays" I had purchased :D

Is this floor just gorgeous?!  ;)
Doesn't this just look stressful?!  Wow, what a mess!

I took off all of the cupboard doors & painted them....

Several coats of paint.......

I really wanted to add this fun detail to the doors, using the same gray (Behr Premium Ultra, Creek Bend) we had used on the walls, but it was going to be too time consuming & I couldn't make the lines straight enough to make it not look like a 5 year old had done it :)  The cabinets are also Behr paint, color is Antique White.

My sweet friend Tricia came over one day & helped me with some taping & painting!
Also see the new appliances we got?  They look so much better than the old ones!  We still want to get a microwave to go above the range, but for now we'll keep using the old one & keep the funny looking hood above the oven :)  One step at a time, right?!

My husband installed the flooring & it looks fabulous!!

New hardware for the doors & drawers

"Working" hard?!  :)  After we got the new floor in & some new appliances, we realized how awful the old countertop looked, so back to Lowe's we went to order something new.  And installed it ourselves.  We saved so much money doing everything on our own, but it was a lot of work!

This particular wall gave us some troubles, as we had to make some new cuts into the counter to get it just right.  We scratched up the wall along the way as well - but nothing a little sanding & paint couldn't fix!

We also got a new sink that is wonderful!

The final reveal....................

You may recognize these chairs from a previous post, showing you how I had redone them!  BTW, I am still really liking them & the color has really grown on me.  I also love how the rug in the entry way just pops from this angle in the kitchen.

So there you have it!  I am in love with my kitchen & am so happy with how it turned out!  The color gray is perfect - thank you Behr Ultra paint, you are my new best friend when it comes to painting :)

If you are considering painting your cupboards & putting new hardware on, please let me know, as I've got a few helpful hints that I had to learn along the way :)  Maybe I'll post about them again some other day!

Delta to US Airways to Delta to US Air to Delta & finally home!

I had one of the most crazy days of travelling yesterday!!!! I had gone to NY to visit a friend & help her celebrate her 30th birthday, getting a new job, & getting engaged.  It was an absolute blast!  I found out on Sunday night that my 6 am Delta flight out of White Plains, NY for Monday morning was cancelled and I was re-scheduled on a US Airways flight at 6 to DC, then on to MSP via Delta.  When I checked in at the airport, they couldn't figure out my itinerary & how to handle my luggage, so I missed the 6:00 flight out.  Then I was scheduled for a 7:30 flight on Delta, flying through ATL, with one leg of the trip in first class - bonus!  As we boarded that flight, there was a crazy looking storm coming..... not a good sign.  Right after I took my Dramamine, someone came & asked me to get off the plane in exchange for a $300 voucher & a direct flight out of La Guardia to MSP, in first class.  Of course I said yes!
Well, by time I got back to the Delta counter, they couldn't get me to La Guardia, so we were back to square one of trying to get me home.  Plus, they were holding all flights, b/c of the weather, so that tiny airport filled up quite quickly.  I finally got a ticket back with US Airways again, going through Philly, then  on to MSP, neither of which were in first class.  Of course the flight was late, because of the weather.
Remember how I had taken the Dramamine?  Well, it was kicking my butt and I had the hardest time staying awake b/c of it & was so worried I was going to miss my flight, that I had to fight hard to stay awake.  I did finally make it to Philly, but missed my connection b/c in White Plains I only got one boarding pass & wasn’t checked in for the next flight, so they didn’t hold the plane for me.  The lady at the US Airways counter went on to inform me that the next available flight out was at 6 pm, at which point the tears began to flow uncontrollably J  So, then I made my way through the airport, to another terminal, to find the ticket counter for Delta, & see if they could fix this problem they created, lol!  Finally I got on a flight at 2:25 to MSP & my luggage somehow was there waiting for me when I got there!  What a roller coaster of a day.  I’m still exhausted & ready for a nap after re-living the day on here J  The plus side – I got 2 free meals out of the day & $400 in vouchers for my next flight!   And NY was amazing, so I’d do it all over again if I had to!

Non Profit Help

Did you know that you can help your favorite non-profit or charity raise money for their cause?! I have chosen to support ImpactLives, Inc during my browsing of the internet! I actually had the incredible privilege of working for ImpactLives for a couple of years, coming on as their first regular paid employee! It is a wonderful organization that is focused on "Transforming communities & people through leadership identification, immersive cross cultural training & short-term humanitarian efforts". I was able to be involved in so many incredible things during my time with them, I don't even know where to begin telling you about them!

I was able to work alongside thousands of people to help send life-saving meals to people in many 3rd world countries. I believe over 7 million meals were sent out in one year alone! I also got to travel a few times down to the Dominican Republic with a team of people from Mitchell, SD and another team of students from the International School of MN. We not only distributed food to the local people, but also got to build homes for them as well. The teams that we brought down there were also learning a lot about themselves as we went through the leadership development training. I can't tell you how powerful those trips were!

If you are at all interested in helping people around you, I highly recommend you connect with ImpactLives! They will travel all over to help people out!

Here's a picture from one of my trips to the D.R. of some of the children we were able to help:

Wedding Pictures!

It's only been over 10 months since we got married, but I FINALLY got some of the pictures up on facebook!  I had tried several months ago, but for whatever reason, they weren't loading correctly, so I just took them all down.  My distant relative, Jenna of Photographs by Jenna Leigh & A Northwest Wedding, took our pictures & she did an incredible job with them.  I LOVE looking at them & seeing all of the fun reminders of our special day.  Here are a few of my favorites:

We made these as the party favors.  Ed & I really started to get to know each other with on a trip to the Dominican Republic with our church and we both really like the coffee from there.  So, we managed to get several bags of it for the wedding & wrapped it up in these fun little bags.  I wanted our favors to have some meaning to them :)

"Love is Made Complete" was one of the phrases from the text that was read, so we incorporated that into the whole day!

I really wanted to use fish for centerpieces & they worked out great!

This was the most perfect day!!

Closer to finishing bathroom

I finally have something to add to the bright wall in my bathroom!  I found a great set of canvases from Michaels and also had a cut-out pattern of a flower & went to work on my newest decoration!  I'm really liking the way the bathroom is slowly coming together.  There's still more work to be done, but it's perfect for right now :D  I'll show you how I made this decoration in another post, but for now, here is the finished product!

Well, maybe not completely finished - I feel like the art work is still missing something, so we'll see what comes to mind in the coming days, maybe weeks, maybe even months.........

We still need to do something else with the old floor, but that'll be another project down the road :)

Vases & Flowers

I have a new love of vases & flowers, so I thought I'd show you a few!  There's a couple I've bought (of course on clearance!) and then some that I made - so fun :)  For now, they're on display in our office which means I get to enjoy them as I write this!

I found the idea on Pinterest for these vases that I made and they've turned out pretty well so far.  The best part is that they were super cheap & easy to make!  Just re-use a glass bottle, put craft clue on it, & wrap it in yarn.  Easy as that!  I added my own touch to it, by using some cute embelishments that I got at Michaels (also on clearance, btw!).

I made another orange colored one over the weekend, which is at my aunt's hair shop, so I don't have a picture of that one.  It's pretty similar to these, but I also added a string of fun looking beads to decorate the neck of the bottle.

Here's how I've really got that wall decorated:

I love these flowers!  The fun multi-colored ones are actually made out of paper & are so cute!  I found them at Hobby Lobby (again on clearance - notice a theme?!) & fell in love with them!

The gray vase I found last fall at Target - on clearance :)

I had to take a picture of this picture - I actually shot it in South Africa several years ago.  They were breathtakingly beautiful flowers that I spotted while climbing down the side of a mountain.  I know it's hard to tell on here, but they really are gorgeous!
