Heavenly Bits & Pieces

It was an exciting day when Ele over at A Bit of Heaven invited to me do another creation with some supplies that she was going to send to me!  I was excited to see what she would send this time & also excited to put my creativity to work again :D  This time the supplies came from the Etsy shop of Sigrid Studios
She sent a nice variety of items, which you can see here:

So, I decided to use the items to make a fun little box that can be used either to actually carry stuff (or like a money box if you need something of the sort!) or just a fun little decoration!

Here's how it turned out!!

You can see that it's got a very vintage feel to it!  There's a lot of old papers combined into it, but I just love the old sheet music & thought it was fun to have as the main piece of the inside.  I tried to make the font look very eclectic!  I still have a lot of stuff left over & have not decided yet what to make with it, but thought this was a fun first step :)  And,  I haven't decided what I'm going to do with the item I made either - could be a fun little addition to a certain Vintage Shop that I know of!

Thank you to A Bit of Heaven & to Sigrid Studios for the supplies!!

Have a wonderful day!

Canada!!

Wow, it's taken me forever to post some pictures from our trip to Canada!!  It seems as though it's been a whirlwind since we got back & life has had many ups & downs since then.  But, I finally have a Saturday at home, which I love!  And, the weather outside is frightfu.....  no, I mean it's GORGEOUS!  I just love beautiful fall days in Minnesota!  The leaves are changing color, there's a crispness to the air at night, & there's a wonderful smell in the air!  I will post more pictures of fall later.  Let's focus on Canada for now :)

Despite the hail storm that we had to drive through on our way to Banff & the damage it did to Beauty (my car) we had a great trip!  We spent 4 nights in Canada & then drove down to Montana, which was also great.  I'll talk more about that part of the trip later on as well - I just want to show the beauty of the Banff area for now!

It was absolutely gorgeous!!!  If you've never been, trust me, you NEED to take the time to go.  I've heard it's beautiful in the winter as well, but it was perfect in the summer (well, besides sleeping in a tent when it was in the 40's at night, but that's beside the point, lol!).  I highly recommend going!

Gorgeous, huh?!

I think this is called the Fairmont....... it's a huge, famous hotel in Banff.

This is Lake Louise.  The color of the water was stunning, as was the view!

Ready to start our first hike of the trip, up to the Tea Hut!

This was a little less than half way up the mountain....

We made it to the top!  As we sat to eat lunch, we were welcomed by some guests........

He wanted to eat our food.

Happy Anniversary!

See that hotel at the bottom?  That's where we started our trek!

Ed brought his spotting scope, which was pretty fun to look through!

I think this was Morraine Lake.  Again, the color of the water was gorgeous!!!

This is a glacier.

This is me trying to hold up the glacier.

Yes, he did walk across there & explored over on the other side of the river :D

Breathtakingly beautiful!!

Good bye Banff.  Hopefully we'll see you again some day!

So, there you have it!  Next up, pics of Montana!!

Pinterest Recipe

I cannot wait to try this recipe tonight!!  I'm having a Jewel Kade party at my house & I can't wait to see how good this smells!  It's my Pinterest pick of the week - have I mentioned yet how much I love Pinterest?!  Thank you whoever created it :D

http://pinterest.com/pin/212865519858164986/

The recipe is to help make your house smell amazing!  It's just oranges & cinnamon, boiled in water.  I hope it smells as good as I am imagining it to smell :)

Have a fabulous day!

Basement Arrangements

We recently rearranged a little bit in our basement/den.  I'm trying to decide which looks better on our mantle, for right now :)  I may switch it all up & do something more creative for fall, but for now it will stay as is!  I'm just starting up as a Stylist with Jewel Kade, which is an incredible line of jewelry & I'm in love with.  Needless to say, my time will be a bit consumed because of that, so I may not get around to decorating more for fall!!  Oh, the sacrifice, right?!  ;)  No, not really!

Anyway, which do you think looks better?
I know it's kind of dark down there & hard to see, but you kind of get the gist of it....... This picture was in my husbands grandma's house - so it's an oldie but a goodie!

If you've never heard of or been to Ronda, Spain, you MUST go!  I still think it's been one of my most favorite places to travel - it was simply gorgeous!  This picture doesn't do it justice.  Just trust me when I say it's gorgeous :D  And that you should go.  I was in Spain for a conference & got to see & go inside the Rock of Gibraltar & Ronda in one day.  Oh so fun!

So, any votes?!  I'd love to hear what you think :)  Some day I will show more pics of the basement & what it looks like!!

Another Gift

My sweet friend, Catherine is getting married next month!  I got to go to a bridal shower for her this past weekend - it was so fun to celebrate her & this next stage of her life!  Up until the day before her shower, I still didn't know what I wanted to get for her.  I kind of wanted to make something, but wasn't sure what.  So, the day before, I ended up going to Target to look over her registry & found these super duper cute & fun napkins that her & her finace had registered for......
I love the pattern so much, I may go get some myself & make more things with them :D

It took me a while to figure what to do - one idea was to try to use the same pattern & make some sort of wall decor out of the pattern.  But I'm not good at re-creating things.  I tried re-drawing the pattern several times, but couldn't get it to look quite right.  Then, the lightbulb when off!!!  I took one of the napkins out of the package & photo-copied it & then used that to create something....
It didn't copy perfectly, but it still looked ok, so I went with it :)  I kind of like when things aren't perfect sometimes!

And this was the finished product!!  I put the paper on a canvas, which I wished afterward that I would have done something more sturdy.  I'm really hoping it will stick & not come off of the canvas.  The modge podge was giving me some issues that day!!  Her new last name will start with an "M" so I wanted to add that detail to the piece.  Being as it didn't show up super well, I added the black embelishments as well, which I think added a nice touch!  I like how the shapes in the 2 corners added some extra bling, as they have a black sparkly finish to them :D

Bike crashes

I was looking through some of my pictures on the computer, trying to find something to inspire a blog post for today when I found these beauties!

My sweet, sweet husband gave them to me last summer, not because I did something to make me deserve them, but quite the opposite!  It was about to storm & I think I had even heard that we were maybe going to get hail, so I wanted to pull the car in the garage.  But, there was this bike in the way.  So, I tried to figure out if there was a way that I could manuever the bike out of the way, into the small open space next to all of the other stuff in the garage (it was while we were remodelling or replacing the carpet, so half of the garage was FULL of stuff!).  I had to make sure I could hold it up & move it safely.  Which I managed to do.  I got the kickstand back in place & set the bike back in it's place to rest on it.  That only lasted about 45 seconds.  The pretty, blue, shiny bike was too heavy for the way it was resting on the kickstand & just after I had moved away from it, content that I was able to move it, it came crashing down on the garage floor.  My heart dropped.

You see, it wasn't just a normal bike.  It was a motorcycle!!!!  And it was heavy.  Too heavy for me to pick up.  I felt awful.  I text my husband to let him know, scared of what he was going to say.  I was in tears.  I seriously felt terrible!  He was so gracious with me & asked if I was ok!  What?!  I may have just ruined his motorcycle & he asks if I'm ok?!  Wow!  So instead of being mad at me, he bought me these beautiful flowers!  I couldn't believe it.  He knew how terrible I felt, so wanted to make me feel better.  The "bike" did have a few scratches in it & a few parts had to be replaced, but it wasn't as bad as I was imagining.  The worst part tho - it never did hail.  I don't think I've even touched the bike since that little incident :D

The opened up beautifully!!

9.11.01 - Where was God that day?

It's hard to believe, but it's been 11 years since the Twin Towers in NYC fell.  What a tragic day that was.  I remember I was a junior in college & was sitting in our living room eating breakfast, getting ready to go to class when I saw the news.  I watched the newscasters talk about the first plane crashing into the first tower, confused by how a pilot could have been so off, only to see the second plane hit.  It was horrific.  My roommates & I couldn't even speak.  School was cancelled that day & all we did was sit & watch.  There didn't really seem like there was anything else we could do.  I felt helpless.  And my heart broke for all of the people who were involved & lost loved ones.  I couldn't stop the tears over this great tragedy.

The only other thing I could do from my little apartment was pray.  Pray for protection over the people who were going in to rescue those caught in the fire, putting their own life on the line.  Pray for the families whose lives were forever changed.  Pray for people to turn to God instead of blaming Him.  Pray for the attacks to stop.  Pray for those who were involved in crashing the planes, that somehow God would enter into their lives & turn them away from the evil in their hearts.  Pray for our President & those in leadership of our country, that they would make the best decisions as to how to move forward.  I cannot imagine the amount of responsibility that was put on his/their shoulders, as America looked to them to move forward, but also to not ever let something like this happen again.

So many people ask how God could allow something like this to happen.  How does he allow such evil things to happen to good people.  But I don't think it was His plan at all.  He doesn't want to see his children, his creation suffer.  There is evil in the world, doing anything in it's power to turn people away from Christ.  I believe that this situation hurt the heart of God, just as much, if not more than it hurt mine & yours as well.  It's not how he created life to be.  Some day, all evil will be wiped away & there will be no more pain & suffering.  I cannot wait for that day!  Here's a reference to what I'm talking about, taken from "The Message", which has been quoted as "The Bible in Contemporary Language" on their website.  It takes often-times hard to understand texts & simplifies them into our current language, making it a bit easier to comprehend.  If I'm having a hard time understanding what the Bible is saying, I'll often times go to The Message version to try & get a handle on it.

Anyway, here's what I wanted to share:

2 Peter 3:9

The Message (MSG)

I just love that!  It speaks so much to the heart of God.  He wants everyone to change & to come to Him, because he loves us so much!

I heard so many stories in the days, weeks, & months after this tragic event, of people who missed their bus, or forgot something at home & turned around to go back & were late for work that day, which allowed them to not be in the towers.  I don't think that was a coincidence, I think that was the hand of God.  If you've got a story like that, I'd love to hear it!

Today we pause & we remember the people who sacrificed back on that September fall day, & are still sacrificing their lives for our freedom.  We are forever grateful to them.  Thank you for your sacrifice.  And to the families & to the people who lost a loved one over those long, gruelling days, know that we mourn with you still today.  We don't know how it felt, but we are sorry for your loss & continue to hold you up in our prayers as you continue to try to live each moment & each day without your loved-one.  May God give you the peace & the comfort that you need.

We survived our camping & driving so far!  We are now back in Minot & will head home soon.  It's been a great time- Canada was gorgeous!  We also met up with my husbands parents & sister in Red Lodge, MT & did some camping & exploring with them.  It was beautiful there too & so fun to get to spend some time with family that we don't get to see often enough!

I will post pictures once I'm home & have some time :)

Have a great Friday!!

Adventures in Canada

My husband & I are on a little road trip in Canada!  We left early yesterday morning from Minot, ND and had a good day of driving for the most part.  From Minot to Calgary, the landscape was pretty much the same.....very very large rolling fields of all kinds of different crops as well as pasture land for the cattle.  Just huge farms though.  Bigger than any I'd seen!
Well, about 10 hours into our trip, we slowly started approaching a storm that took over nearly the entire horizon.  It just got darker & darker the closer we got to it.  Turns out it was a nasty nasty hail storm that seemed to last 20 minutes!  I've never seen anything like it.  There were golf ball size hail bouncing off the road, onto Beauty (my car!), so we pulled off the road right away to wait it out.  There was no where to go, we were in the middle of a bunch of fields with protection from the insane storm.  I've never been stuck inside a car during something like this. Ni thought for sure the windshield was going to break & we'd get pelted with hail.  I definitely said a few prayers for protection!
Thank the Lord we didn't get hurt!  Beauty has quite a few bruises tho :(. We will have to get her fixed when we get home.  If I can figure out how to load pictures from this iPad I will!!
Until then, have a great day!

Artist Call!

Ele from A Bit of Heaven is hosting an artist call each month & I was one of the artists chosen for August!  I was so excited to receive my package of goodies a couple weeks ago & couldn't wait to get working!  The items that were sent are, well, Heavenly!  The guest supplier for this artist call was from an Etsy shop owner at http://www.etsy.com/shop/memoryartbylisa.  Her stuff was just adorable - be sure to check it out!
Here are the items that she supplied:
Such fun details in each of these items!  I'm guessing they were all made by hand by Lisa - what talent she's got!!

Isn't the little tag with the bird on it cute?!  And it goes especially great with the nest...

I just love the colors in the paper & thought they were a great pairing together!  Combine it all together & it's perfect!

And here's the progression of my creation:
Mod Podge - one of my essentials :D

I got a board from JoAnn fabric (used a coupon for half off, thank you!) and decided to paint the edges black - hoping it would make the blues & greens in the paper & the decor just pop!

This is a bit blurry, but trying to show how I apply the Mod Podge - I try to do half at a time - put a thick layer on the board & then line up the paper as best I can & lay it down slowly, moving from right to left.  I just learned a trick to use a credit card to smooth it out - I'll try it on my next project, that's for sure!!

After you finish the bottom coat & have all of the bubbles out, put several layers on top as well to seal it in place.  It also adds a fun finish to the piece of art!

Playing around with some layouts......
The finished product!!

Close up looks...

Again, I love how the nest turned out!

I wasn't quite sure how I wanted to incorporate the green & white string.  In the end I decided to tie little bows & put them in the top corners of the board.  I used a tacky glue to secure all of the embellishments in place, including the string.

Pinteresting Day - Cake Batter Dip

Holy buckets, is this stuff ever good!!!  If you need an easy, quick recipe for a party, try this!  It goes awesome with graham crackers, teddy grahams, but my favorite is Scooby Snacks!  I just can't tell you enough how good it is :D  Try it out!

The best part is that it's only 3 ingredients :D  Cake batter, cool whip & yogurt......

Bachelorette Fans - Curacao Home

I often will post my crafts and home made items on linking parties each day.  One blog in particular that I really enjoy is called Between Naps on the Porch - it's just fun to link to, but also fun to see all of the things that are posted on there are well!  Here's one in particular that caught my eye!  It's about the house that Emily from The Bachelorette stayed in while in Curacao!  From what I understand the blog host has some long distance connection with the owner of the house - how fun is that?!

Check it out!
http://betweennapsontheporch.net/the-bachelorette-tour-the-curacao-home-where-emily-stayed/

I didn't watch too much of the show this season, but did see the end - how gorgeous does Curacao look?!  I'd love to go there any day :D

Have a blissful day!

Chicago & Door County!

Over the 4th of July, my husband & I took a little mini vacay to Chicago!  Neither of us had really been there before.  We found a great price on a hotel room, so away we went :D  The drive wasn't too bad & it was so fun to get to drive up to the Windy City!  We were both surprised by how big it actually is.  Minneapolis looks puny compared to Chicago!  We stayed at a Hyatt just a block off of Michigan Ave & only a few blocks from Navy Pier - it was an awesome location!  And an awesome room :)  We got upgraded to an executive suite since we were there celebrating our 1st anniversary.  Thank you Lord!

We got to watch fireworks on the 4th at the Navy Pier, ate out a few times, went on the Architectural boat tour of the city (highly recommend if you want to see a large chunk of the city without having to walk all of it!), Sears (Willis) Tower, the Museum of Science & something, ate at Gino's Pizza East, and got some of the famous popcorn on our way out of town!  Whew!  It was busy, but lots of fun to see.

After that we drove up to Door County, WI for 2 nights, which was also a lot of fun.  It's a very quaint area with gorgeous beaches & just untouched beauty!  I also highly recommend going there if you're looking for a place to get away to.  It's just a cute area with a lot to see & do.  We camped out for the 2 nights we were there, so were able to go there for pretty cheap.  We were dreaming about how fun it would be to have a sail boat that we could take from MN & go through Lake Superior on to Lake Michigan & just explore that way!  Maybe someday.........

Here's a few pics!

We had the cutest little tour guide ever!  I would go back again just to see her :)  Did I mention we were there when it was over 100 degrees & they were breaking heat records?!  Yeah, it was HOTTTT!!!!

After being in line for 2 hours, we finally made it to the top of the sears/willis tower - what an incredible view from 103 stories up!  We did go in the glass lookout - pretty cool but freaky at the same time!

From one extreme.....

To the other.....  :D

Lake Michigan is beautiful!

Once we got around the corner, there was a gorgeous white sand beach that went on for miles!  Would love to have a cabin here someday - anyone want to join us?!
